  1. Use wooden hair brush or wide-toothed comb
  2. Regular scalp massages
  3. Provide nourishment to the ends
  4. Scalp exfoliation
  5. Switch to better products

In the end, I will also share one bonus tip with you guys. But before digging in, let me familiarize you with my hair care journey. Before 2020, I used to keep my hair in a high ponytail daily when I was in college. That hairstyle gave me dull hair and headaches. Thereafter, whole world went in various lockdown phases due to COVID-19. Then only, my hair were relieved as I started keeping them in buns and braids. I realized that this period could be lucrative to my hair and I made up my mind to make my hair healthy and glossy. I did nothing except these tips that I am sharing today which acted fruitful to me and thus, became a part of my hair care routine. I am 100% sure that these will definitely help you in achieving your hair goals.

Now, let’s see what exactly these tips are in detail.

TIP 1: Use wooden hair brush or wide-toothed comb

Wide toothed combs or hair brushes work best in removing tangles from our hair. Using wooden combs or brushes is much better than plastic ones as they are gentle to the hair and provides nourishment naturally.

  • In terms of when to detangle the hair, I would personally suggest to brush only twice ( one in morning and other at night ) as overbrushing is not going to provide you any benefit or can even take a toll.

TIP 2: Regular scalp massages

If we want sweet fruits and green leaves, we focus on providing nutrients to the roots of a tree. The same goes for our hair too. For having lustrous hair, taking care of the scalp is essential. Massaging the scalp for 5 to 10 minutes every night improves blood circulation in the scalp which results in promoting hair growth. Moreover, it isn’t necessary to use oil for massaging. You can do that without any oil too. Just ensure to use fingertips for massage and NOT your nails.

  • Try to do scalp massage at night as it will also help you in sleeping well. Don’t brush your hair after massaging.

TIP 3: Provide nourishment to the ends

Most of us only use oils for massaging our scalp as well as on the length of our hair on shampoo days. But what about the other days? In the previous tip, I suggested to do scalp massage daily and have not said anything about the ends of our hair. You should rub 2 to 3 drops of any oil on your hands and then gently take them through the tips of your hair. It will provide nourishment and will help in reducing split ends as well.

  • Do this regularly before making your night-time hairstyle. Also, never put oil on hair ends in the day-time as it will merely attract dust.

TIP 4: Scalp exfoliation

Apart from scalp massages, exfoliating the scalp makes it more healthy. Exfoliation helps in removing dead cells and any product build-ups. This also reduces the chance of getting dandruff. So, if hair care is in your list, scalp exfoliation is your friend. Furthermore, instead of buying any product for scalp exfoliation, try mixing some coffee grounds in your shampoo. The benefits of coffee will help you incredibly in having shiny hair.

  • Exfoliating once in every two hair-washes is more than enough and this is exactly what I do.

TIP 5: Switch to better products

Keep an eye on the ingredients of the hair care products that you use. You should skip the shampoos which have chemicals like sulfates and parabens . Try to use products with essential oils or some nourishing plants such as aloe vera, Indian gooseberries and others.

  • In case you have bought the chemical based shampoos, use them once in every 4 hair-washes.

BONUS TIP:

On your shampoo days, you can use hair masks to provide extra care and nourishment to your hair strands. I personally use DIY hair masks like Flaxseed hair mask (flaxseed gel+castor oil+coconut oil+ aloe vera gel[optional]). This has played a huge role in making my hair healthy, glossy and silky. I would suggest you to give this a try and you will definitely thank me later.
