Content Creation Mistakes
5 Things You Should NEVER Do As A Writer
New Writers, take notes!
Writing online and earning money is not difficult if you know what to do and what not to do.
When I started writing online, I knew nothing.
I made mistakes. I learned from them. I fell but was able to get back up. After learning and experimenting with everything on my own, I now confidently tell and consult people.
You must have seen plenty of articles telling you to do this and that to become a wonderful writer. But what about things you should never do?
I have been writing for about 6–7 months now. After learning and upskilling myself, these are the top 5 things I will never advise you to do —
Start Working With Clients Before Understanding The Basics.
Never ever make this mistake when you are starting out.
Before you start looking for clients as a writer, get your basics done. Do not sign a deal when you don’t know how to write, how to do research, how to get ranked organically, and more. If you do, you will suffer huge losses.
Here’s how:
First of all, you will not be able to deliver what you have promised to the client. That way, your client will be unhappy with your work, and your chance of working with him again becomes zero.
Secondly, since you are just starting out, this bad experience with your first few clients will destroy your determination and willpower. So, you might break out, thinking, "This field ain’t for you."
Therefore, do not get on board when you are a newbie. Get your homework done before you look for work or money.
Hate Someone For The Negative Feedback
When we are writing online, we are open to criticism and appreciation.
Criticism affects us to a much greater degree, and many writers start hating the person who gives negative feedback. But you and I are not going to do that.
We are going to utilize it for ourselves. However, I am not telling you to tolerate someone trying to be mean to you for no reason or writing hateful comments under your posts. Shouldn’t that person be on your block list?
If he is not, add him there.
Never Take Your Audience For Granted.
You work day and night to get the reader’s attention. Once you have that, do not take things easy.
People follow you to get more valuable content from you. If you start taking them for granted and hardly publish any content, they will find someone else.
Therefore, once you have an active audience, give them stunning content regularly. Give them a reason to stay with you.
Never Copy Anyone
Plagiarized content won’t take you anywhere.
I always tell you to see how successful writers write. But if you start copying their style of writing or work, I want you to stop right there.
Hear me out. We all want to stand out from the crowd, right?
However, by being someone else, you are becoming part of the crowd. Plagiarism will not let you stand above it all. You may be putting in 100% effort, but if the information is not first-hand, you should not call yourself a writer.
Never Stop Networking
Networking allows you to exponentially grow and attract new opportunities.
If you are neither replying to the comments under your posts nor interacting with fellow writers and creators, you will get nothing: no reach, no audience, and no inbound leads at all.
You will be left alone and have no online community to talk to on your bad days.
I have gotten many leads just by networking with the right people. So, if you are not doing it, start today!
Final Words
Now you know what you should not do if you want to grow as a writer and make it your full-time job. It’s time for you to avoid these mistakes.
