Let’s admit it.

Growing on Medium is much more difficult than on Instagram or LinkedIn. But it does not mean you can not grow here.

Yes, you can.

But wait, hold on. Before you plan and dream about having thousands of followers and crazy stats growth, tell me one thing.

Have you figured out why have not you grown on Medium yet?

Was your internet working fine? Was your keyboard on your side when you wanted to type? or were you both fighting?

Well, I guess everything was alright. Then, what was the reason?

Let’s start figuring them out in this article and hence, grow together.

Here are 7 strong reasons why you are not growing on Medium —

You haven’t accepted yourself as a writer.

This happens especially with new writers.

If you don’t accept yourself as a writer, you get trapped in the negative thoughts that your mind produces. You fear that people will not like what you publish. You surround yourself with such energy and hence, you can not grow in self-doubt.

You are not providing value in your content.

I have shown you in one of my previous articles how I went from 0 to 1000+ followers just by providing value in each of my Medium stories.

Check your last 3 stories after reading this one. Did you add value to them?

If not, this is one of the reasons you are not getting genuine support from people. (follow me back, please — these types of comments are not genuine support)

Do not write what you want to write. Write what the audience wants to read. Before you publish a story, ask yourself “What will the reader learn from this story?”

Get a good answer to this question and then publish.

You are comparing yourself to other writers.

Oh my god, I would be highly disappointed if you are doing this.

Comparing yourself to others is the worst thing you can do to yourself. If they are posting success stories, it means they are putting effort into becoming better. You won’t grow if the only thing you do is compare.

You are trapped in the “follow for follow back strategy”.

This strategy is detrimental to your growth. I know many writers suggest that you go for it. But do not. Think before taking the action.

Do you want people who are invisible in your stories, but present in your follower count?

I will quit posting on Medium instead of doing this.

You will never get an engaging audience if you follow this strategy. Also, you may send an invitation to Medium to suspend your account, if you go overboard.

You are not ready to learn from your stats.

Yes, your stats tell you a lot. When did you last analyze your stats and see what type of content did your audience loved the most?

If you give readers what they want, you will never complain about not getting engagement and followers.

You have not written enough.

Do you publish content actively?

If you are not consistent, people will not be interested in following you. Imagine you watch an extremely hilarious video and plan to subscribe to that channel on Youtube to watch more of it in the future. But when you go to the channel’s page, you see that was the only video they posted (a long time ago).

Would you still be interested in subscribing to it?

I would not be.

Therefore, publish regularly on Medium if you want readers to come to you and help you in growing.

You don’t spend enough time reading

Do not complain saying you don’t have ideas to write.

When you consume content consistently, you will always have something to write. You can teach your audience what you learned. You can make them aware of the things that were missing in that content.

You can never say “I don’t know what to write”, once you consume quality content on a daily basis(or regularly).

Final Words

Once you know your reason, focus on improving yourself rather than reading another article after this.
