Getting membership for reading articles of other members is good. But if you are eligible for MPP, try to get into it first. So that you can spend money on becoming member (monthly or direct yearly); earn from Medium then spend from the earnings not from your pocket.

If you does not belong to a country which is in MPP list, then do not spend money on anything until you earn some bucks.
