Medium Partnership Program is exciting
Here’s why I won’t join it —
There would be no one on Medium who have not heard of Medium’s Partner Program. Every writer tries to join it.
Why?
Because we all love money. Me too!
By the end of this article you will know,
How MPP can actually become detrimental for your growth on the platform.
As You can see, I have crossed 200 followers today. Thank you so much ❤. But I made my mind today to stay away from Medium Partner Program. You will know why, after reading the reasons —
1. My Country isn’t in the list of MPP members
I’m an Indian Content Writer. As many of you might know that India is not a member of the Medium Partnership Program. Thus, Like other Indians on the platform, I cannot earn a penny.
Am I sad about it?
Nope!
Because I got amazing and engaging audience i.e. YOU
Hence, instead of becoming a negative thing, it became positive since I have you :)
2. Satisfaction >>> Money
When I started writing, I asked myself :
“ Why do I want to write?”
My answer was:
I write because I enjoy it.
I never feel any kind of boredom when I am writing (text messages, articles or anything). In fact, whenever I have a problem, I immediately take a notebook and pen and start writing. The cause of my issue, possible solution to it and what should be my next step. I write everything.
I won’t be exaggerating if I say that my habit of overthinking is reduced ever since I started writing (as I write down most of my thoughts on the paper). So, satisfaction comes in my list above money.
3. FREE content is accessible to ALL.
Many of the writers on Medium try to avoid getting the membership to read articles especially in the beginning. I am not different to them. Whenever I see an interesting article, I click to read it. But when it asks me to upgrade to get the full content, I skip it. Reason?
This is because I don’t want to spend my money before generating good sources of income. There are plenty of free articles on the platform that are providing valuable information. I prefer them over paid ones. When even I am not opening those articles. then like me, many readers might skip my stories as well. I want to give you helpful articles that you can access for FREE.
4. Less Read ratio???
Since there are chances that readers(who don’t have the membership) can skip your work, therefore your audience will not be engaging. You can’t ensure that readers will be grabbing information out of your content. This will directly affect your read ratio and the money that you will be earning, will not be handsome.
On Medium, I post content that is valuable to both newbies and experienced writers. If I know most of the newbies might not be interested in getting the membership, then joining Medium Partner Program will not be lucrative for me. This is because a part of my audience won’t read my stories. Therefore, my purpose of writing will not be fulfilled.
Keeping all this in mind, I have decided to not join the MPP.
I want to create content for my audience here without worrying about the fact that I’m not earning from my stories.
So Does that mean I will not make any money from writing???
Absolutely not!
My medium account is my work.
I’ve got clients with these articles. I sent them the samples of my work (Medium links) and I got the opportunities to write for the clients.
So, just because I do not want to be a member of the program, does not mean I’m at loss.
P.S. I am not against the partnership program. This is my choice of not joining it.
I will be sharing some alternatives to Medium Partner Program that you can go for, in the upcoming story.
Till then, Take care my lovely audience :)
